Corn, water and wood Corn, Water and Wood, 61×76 inches, fabric, thread, 2011
This quilt was began back in 1997. I took a surface design class where I sandwiched black fabric between wooden templates then dipped it in bleach, It left these lovely sharp-edged images. Although I didn’t create the templates, the results evoked wood burning and smoke for me. Also the image in the center top made me think of corn. I used corduroy for much of the quilt of various wales as well as flannel for the blue, red and black. That texture along with the overall roughness reminded me of the Christmas song Corn, Water and Wood.
